Yep, but just before I give you hope, let me put it in the right context. We are in a kind of hell, where at the last count yesterday, 1.6 billion of people are out of their usual work and usual capacity to earn and feed their family. 1.25% of these are in the US. And less than 1% are in UK plus Europe (Brexit being a reality, let's separate them now). That gives you an idea of hell. More than 95% of people having lost their capacity to put food on the table are living in what was called in the pre-COVID world the emerging countries. Not sure what the new politically correct name will be in the post-COVID world? The sanitizing countries? 😧
Anyway, nearly 1.6 billion people who cannot put food on the table each day because they only had one day or two of savings either in food supply or fast dropping fiat currency. That's also around half the population who is capable of working based on age and physical condition. So when you do the simple maths, half the world still works, and half the world begs. It sound like a lot of rioting is about to come in many places. I just say this to be sure we both have the same idea of our current hell, where crisis are piling up after crisis.
OK, so our world is stretched to the limit of implosion. This is where we are. If you deny it, you are not facing the truth. The question becomes what we do about it. Having been in stressful (but not life threatening) situations for a good part of my life, I have learned that when faced with difficult problems to solve but without a clue as to how to find the solution, I invariably apply one of these two methods:
- Either I go Meta
- Or I go Multiplier
Going Meta means to go up one level and see if there is a solution to this new "up one level problem". If not, go up one level once more, and so on. The idea is that you will find a solution before you end up at the last meta problem which may be something like "How should I behave in life?" and the answer "I should be good with others". Something like this. Whichever level you were at when you got the solution, you then go down the levels and use the answer of the meta level above to help find the answer of the level below. It generally works well.
Going Multiplier is another way of finding the correct answer to a difficult problem. The idea is to stretch the situation to its maximum, even beyond its maximum, to see what answer becomes obvious by then. For example, you could ask yourself "what is the best use of my time today?" and not find a very obvious answer. So you stretch it to its maximum and now you ask "what is the best use of my time today knowing that I will die tomorrow?" It forces you into discovering the most important answer, and one can assume that you will find what to do then.
The reason I am saying this is that this hell we are in has stretched many people's attitude. As I wrote two month ago now, we are in the washing machine. We are living in a world to which a multiplier got suddenly applied. In this world, you can see people's values and instinct resurface in a kind of raw state, because the world around them is pressuring them into being who they really are. This is when you see the good, the bad and the ugly.
In these stretched conditions, it is a good moment for you to get clarity once more.
- Who are you?
- What makes you tick?
- How shall you behave?
- Will you help others?
If you have spent your time discovering your values and be clear in your mind, as I encouraged you to do earlier this year, you may be able to go through hell as a ray of light for others. If you have not done it yet, it's a good moment.
I know that this exercise at the beginning of the year helped me a lot, and so far it made me take some decisions with clarity of mind. I find it easy to go Meta and Multiplier. Answers to difficult problems or situations come more naturally.
Look, I am still unemployed but in the past two months, I have been busier than ever. I have helped as many people as I could out there. So far, I have accumulated large gains in the stock market casino where most people lost. I have said Yes to new opportunities. And I have said No More to past oppression. My days are still full of many unknown and risks. It would be foolish to wish for another reality, above all when the old world all around us is collapsing fast. But at least, I feel in control as much as I possibly can, and I take actions which are all consistent with my values. That's the important part.
When you combine good values, openness, and clarity, you can enhance your life, and others' too, well beyond initial expectations.
